- Keiko Anagrius
I was born in Toyama, Japan, in October 1945. After graduating from a school in Tokyo, I joined Japan Air Lines Co. Ltd. and worked there for five years.
Then, I moved to Stockholm, Sweden, to study general textiles at a specialized textile school, Handarbetets Vänner, where I studied weaving, dyeing, and design for two years.
After returning to Tokyo, Japan, I was lucky enough to work as an artist creating works and articles for one of the largest magazine publishers, Kateigahou, for the next 20 years. During that period, I gained a great deal of technical experience.
In the interim, my work also expanded to include educational television programming, diverse commercial art, theatrical costumes, and the release of many publications.
Later, I participated in the UNESCO “Arts in Hospital” project, which focuses on the medical environment, with support from the Swedish Arts Council. This led me to begin working on improving hospital environments in Japan.
Drawing upon my extensive experience, I now wish to express the abundant nature of Öland through the medium of vegetables, utilizing the airy transparency of silk and traditional Japanese techniques such as Kakishibu (persimmon tannin) and indigo dyeing.
Just as these nutrient-rich vegetables require fertile soil to grow, I create these works with a heartfelt prayer that we may all sustain a peaceful life together in the FLOATING GARDEN, free from war.
